This happy little blanket is done! Yesterday was a crazy quilting day. It was my first time machine quilting and on my second row, my machine started doing weird unbalanced stitches. I would test it a few times on a practice quilt and it would be fine, but the second I started with this quilt it would be weird again. So, I decided to try using my mother in law's sewing machine (all the while getting a ton of practice on removing and adding a walking foot!). The stitches on her machine were … [Read more...]
Wish & Dish 1: Florals
I thought it would be fun to do a regular post on fabrics that are currently on my wish list. Right now, I am loving anything floral and I would have to add any (or all!) of these to my stash. 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 Which floral fabrics are on your must-have list right now? ps. Doesn't the Liberty of London fabric (#3) have a similar look to this vintage fabric I just picked up? I think I have a type :) … [Read more...]
WIP Wednesday: Vacation Days
I haven't made any sewing progress since last Wednesday, but I did make some shopping progress (and sometimes, isn't that just as fun? :)). My husband and I celebrated our 7th anniversary with a trip to Coeur d'Alene over the weekend. I had just purchased a copy of Simplify by Camille Roskelley, so I brought that with me to read. I really enjoyed looking through it and it had a few projects I'll be adding to my list. I talked my husband into taking me to the local quilt shop there called Bear … [Read more...]
Vintage Fabric Roundup 3
Here are a few more vintage finds from recent shopping trips. I'm almost out of new fabric finds to show you, so I really hope I'm able to find more soon :) I should probably also start thinking of something to make with these beauties. These four are some of my favorite florals I've found thus far. I especially LOVE the one on the left. The color is amazing, I'm obsessed with mint right now. The purple fabric is not a cotton, so I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with it, but it was too … [Read more...]
WIP Wednesday: Ready for Quilting!
This weekend I had a few hours to assemble the blocks. I quickly learned that if one block is off, it is much more difficult to keep the rest from getting off. I think my earlier mistakes snowballed somewhat. I'm not worried about it though, I'm sure I'll get better at this with more practice. I'm also going to check and see if my local quilt shop has a beginner class. I think it would be fun to meet some other newbies and learn the right way to do things. Part of me wishes I was ok with just … [Read more...]
Vintage Fabric Roundup 2
I had another successful vintage fabric shopping session at my local thrift store! I think I am getting addicted to finding fun older prints. I don't think all of these fabrics I found are vintage (it's especially hard to tell with solids), but I really like the fabric I found. The problem is I am starting to get attached and don't want to use them :) I didn't plan it, but the fabric I found actually coordinates pretty well together. Maybe a future quilt in the works?! Ok, probably not in … [Read more...]
