Summer has come roaring to the mountains of the Pacific Northwest. Yesterday it was 100° F! We don't have AC or even a fan, so we just stay hot :) I was still able to do a little work on the baby D quilt. I marked all my squares and then started sewing them together to make the half square triangles. I was dripping with sweat the whole time and couldn't bring myself to turn on the iron to press them open. I also realized my sewing machine petal gets very hot when I'm sewing. I've never sewn … [Read more...]
Q2 Finish-A-Long
I'm excited to link up my Q2 finish for the 2013 Finish-A-Long over at She Can Quilt. I only had one project I was working on at the start of Q2, my hand quilted wedding present for my best friend. The Finish-A-Long inspired me to start this blog to keep track of my progress and I have really enjoyed chronicling making my first ever quilt. You can read all about this quilt and it's meaning here I also went back into the archives and found a few photos of when I was working on the quilt. … [Read more...]
WIP Wednesday: Confessions
I'm not linking up to the WIP on Freshly Pieced today :( Sadly, I had no project time since last week. I'm hoping that means I'll have a ton to share next week! I did want to take a quick moment to say a big thanks to everyone who commented on my WIP last week. I've been writing and posting WIP Wednesdays each week for over a month. And each week, I would chicken out from linking up. I kept thinking I wasn't good enough yet, or didn't have anything interesting to share, or didn't know what the … [Read more...]
Granny’s Wild Quilt Pattern
I've been focusing on quilting for about the last month and now I'm starting to see quilts in everything (is this normal? haha). I just love all the design possibilities and this medium is definitely so new and exciting for me. I think it would be so awesome to make something I designed (and maybe even out of fabric I've designed??? wild dreams here). I've started sketching a few ideas out, but haven't seriously tried creating anything. I thought it might be fun to try out the quilt designer on … [Read more...]
WIP Wednesday: One down, One to Go
I am still so excited to have finished my second quilt ever. I dropped it off at my mom's on Friday and she's going to take it to the baby shower next weekend. I can't go unfortunately because I had already signed up for the Bavarian Battle. It's basically one of those obstacle course races, but with a Bavarian twist. At the end we get bavarian hats, a brat, and a beer (I might sneak in wine :)). Very excited about this. In the quilt project department, I have another baby quilt planned for … [Read more...]
Cousin Baby Quilt Finished!
This happy little blanket is done! Yesterday was a crazy quilting day. It was my first time machine quilting and on my second row, my machine started doing weird unbalanced stitches. I would test it a few times on a practice quilt and it would be fine, but the second I started with this quilt it would be weird again. So, I decided to try using my mother in law's sewing machine (all the while getting a ton of practice on removing and adding a walking foot!). The stitches on her machine were … [Read more...]
