I always love a good quilting book, so I was really excited to hear that Christa Watson was releasing a new one, called Piece and Quilt with Precuts, filled with new patterns and lots of quilting techniques to try. (Want a chance to win an e-copy!? Find out how below!). Through Christa’s previous books and her Craftsy class, I’ve learned so much and couldn’t wait to see what she has been up to. I think her instructions are some of the best out there, especially for newer quilters who are looking to mix things up. So I jumped at the chance to join her blog hop for the book and I’m so excited to show you my project…
My favorite quilt pattern from her book is called S.W.A.K. and I was super excited to get to play around with it a bit. This pattern is so fun to make! It is made up of my favorite block, the great HST, and uses the light/dark sections in such a fun way. I have been wanting to learn how to make a table runner without binding and I thought this pattern would be the perfect choice to modify into one. I love how it turned out!
Now, the issue is, I don’t have a dining room or a dining table. haha small house problems 😉 But I didn’t let small issues like that stop me. I took the table runner on vacation with me last week and had a little iphone photo session. Oh to always have such beautiful natural lighting (and a gorgeous table!)… such a dream!
Now to the fun part… More pictures!!
For the fabric, I used the remaining Early Bird fabric I had from my Rosewood Quilt (quilted with a technique I learned from Christa!). And the chambray background fabric is from Robert Kaufman.
If you’re ready to add this book to your library, I recommend grabbing a signed copy from Christa’s site!
If you haven’t checked out the blog hop yet, click here to see the full schedule. There are so many amazing projects to see!

Beautiful table runner Michelle!
I absolutely love your runner. I love the quilting. You just gave me another idea for Christmas. AS you my favorite? I am not sure.
Your runner is lovely. I think the stars pattern is my favorite.
So far, Frequency is my fav as it looks quick, has eye appeal and uses a jellyroll. I like the straight line stitching idea for finishing a quilt or table topper like yours.
What a *beautiful* table runner, Michelle!
I love it!
I know you took the runner On your vacation to catch photos of it… But, what a wonderful idea that is, anyway!
The few times that my grown children and families got together foR a shared vacation, we’d get flowers for the cottage. But, how wonderfully warm and personalizing it would be to bring a table runneR! The next time we do this, i will make runners for us… Then my sons and my daughter can each take one home with them!… A remembrance of our time together, and a little bit of vacation to go back home!
*Thank you!*, Michelle, for that inspiration!
Christa’s new book is a wonder!
Several patterns caught my eye immediately… And S.W.A.K. was one of them… But, each day of this hop has given me a new favorite! Today’s favoriTe is yours… S.W.A.K.!!
*Thank you, again, Michelle!*
(I wish i could be in your photography class!)

(My comment was written in all caps!… It’s funny to see the letters that got caps, and didn’t, in the posting!! It could have been SO much worse!)
I liked Squiggles the best so far.
I love this pattern. I am fascinated by all the half square triangle options but adding the dark and light background really makes it fun!
Love your table runner. I also do not have a table, but often hang the ones I make on a narrow wall space, they work great there.
I really love the star quilt, as well as her scrappy spools.
I like the grid Work pattern. There’s an element of ‘asymmetry’ that appeals to me! i’d love to win the book! Thanks.
Each one I see becomes my favorite. 🙂 So this s.w.a.k. quilt pattern is now my favorite. I wonder what quilt will be featured tomorrow?
Very Nice! My color palette does not usually match up with Christa’s but the chambray with this fabric line has made me want to look at this design a bit closer. I have a lovely set of fabric that was purchased to match an absolutely gorgeous batik that I think this will work perfectly for!
I’m not into table runners, but I may have to make an exception after seeing yours. I guess I will vote on your pattern for favorite! I love the way you quilted it, also. So simple, yet elegant.
Cute runner!. I like the stars quilt.
THE QUILT ON PAGE 8 WAS THE FIRST TO CATCH MY EYE ON THE PUBLISHER’S WEBSITE. MAYBE IT WAS ALL OF THE OPEN SPACE ON WHICH TO PRACTISE MY FREE MOTION QUILTING. I’m LOVING YOUR VERSION OF SWAK AS WELL.
Beautiful table runner and I love the chambray backgrounD fabric. My favorite in the book is the Stars quilt
I love your table runner. My favourite patterns so far has been Gridlock, although it is difficult to choose just one
Gorgeous runner! I like so many patterns from the book but today I will pick gridwork as my favorite — I think there are lots of possibilities with that one.
Love the “S.W.A.K.” quilt, and the chambray in your table runner has me swooning 🙂 A close second is “Starstruck” as I’m a huge fan of sparkles and twinkles!
I love the SWAK pattern, although there are many others I would like to make. your runner is beautiful!
Thanks for sharing your fabulous table runner. My favorite quilt from the book is the one with the arrows. Can’t wait to make it.
this is my favorite pattern so far, and yours looks great in the scaled down table runner size. I’ll have to add it to my list.
Love your table runner, colors are great.
Love this pattern.
I love the starstruck pattern but the versions I’ve seen so far of SWAK have made me appreciate this one more.
I think my favorite is Frequency. It looks easy enough for me to tackle.
I love the pattern with the stars! I am a sucker for a new star pattern!
Love the S.W.A.K. table runner and Crista’s quilt! You used such beautiful fabrics. I’m enjoying ALL of the quilts. I’d love to make them all!
I loved the contrast in the table runner very fond of grays and black
I really love the way your table runner came out! The color combination is just beautiful. My favorite pattern from the photos I’ve seen is Dots’n’Dashes but your treatment of S.W.A.K is a pretty close second!
My favorite pattern was Frequency, but now I think SWAK is my favorite! I can’t decide, lol!
So far, SWAK is my favorite, but that can change. Thanks for sharing your tablerunner.
So far all are great, it would be hard to pick. Guess I’d make them all.
