This weekend I had a few hours to assemble the blocks. I quickly learned that if one block is off, it is much more difficult to keep the rest from getting off. I think my earlier mistakes snowballed somewhat. I’m not worried about it though, I’m sure I’ll get better at this with more practice. I’m also going to check and see if my local quilt shop has a beginner class. I think it would be fun to meet some other newbies and learn the right way to do things. Part of me wishes I was ok with just figuring it out and having my own crazy methods, but my personality is such that I really like knowing the “standard” way to do things. Then perhaps I’ll bend the rules 🙂
This cute little quilt is ready for quilting! I did end up leaving off the white borders all together (the white in the photo is the batting) and I’m excited to see it all complete! I ordered a walking foot for my machine online so I’m just waiting for that to come in. I have never used my machine for quilting so I’m super excited. I’m just going to start with some straight lines though. I will probably also do a little handstiching in there because I really like how it looks. But I need to be done with this by the middle of June, so the handstitching will be minimal.
